We’re happy to present another episode in our MYRIADS concert series. Very possibly the last MYRIADS at our current location, so be sure not to miss this! Three adventurous sets by visiting Portuguese percussionist Gustavo Costa, the asynchronous guitar duo of Grzegorz Marciniak and Ivan Vukosavljević, and Darina Žurková exploring a broken piano. This event is part of Helicopter Takes Off, a series of concerts, performances and exhibitions in June to mark the end of the six year stay in our current building. We are moving to a new location over the summer. Stay tuned for more details!  

Gustavo Costa‘s sonic vision is characterized by a constant permeability to various musical styles with a common denominator: experimentation and the constant desire for stylistic renewal. After 30 years of playing and recording with hundreds of musicians and bands both from the underground scene as well as the academic world, he recently decided to make a solo percussion record. Going back to a very physical performance around his main musical instrument has been quite rewarding. He’s been trying to play without much rationalization of all the gestures and musical choices he makes during the performance, making the set fluid and adaptive to each time and location. 

Grzegorz Marciniak and Ivan Vukosavljević are two composers based in The Hague who are both masters at sculpting minimal sound structures where the tiniest details refract as intense colors. This set, composed by Marciniak for two acoustic guitars, is an intimate, static music with ever changing harmonies. Repetitive and primal. Economical in means of expression. The concept of this set feeds on ideas developed while working on Marciniak’s *Melodica Duets 1-4, which will be out soon on Inexhaustible Editions.

Composer, performer, pianist and sound artist Darina Žurková focuses on electroacoustic music – particularly on timbre on the edge of acoustic and processed sounds, exploring the narrativity of imaginary sonic environments. In her set she explores Helicopter’s broken and severely untuned piano, augmenting it with voice and electronics.
