Francesco Gregoretti & SEC_ (Italy)

Francesco Gregoretti is a drummer/percussionist focussed on sound-oriented improvisation. With drums, objects and amplification systems he constructs a sound world made of nervous and unpredictable rhythms, drones, and noises. Feedback becomes not just another layer of sound or even an instrument, but an agent in its own right. At times Gregoretti seems not to be so much controlling the sound but battling it. His idiosyncratic approach to the drums and music is openly introspective and dangerously explosive.

SEC_ is an electro-acoustic musician with a reel-to-reel recorder as his main instrument. His analog tape is loaded with sounds found anywhere and becomes an instrument in itself. He then gives it analog and digital treatments, physically interacting with the tape which results in highly vibrant sounds, bouncing back and forth unpredictably.

Their duo is an explosion of physicality and energy, based on the most sophisticated electro-acoustic research on feedbacks and tape manipulation.

StringWatch by Adam Bonser & Rob Shuttz

Through custom-built and repurposed instruments, Adam Bonser and Rob Shuttz present a ritual exploration into acousto-electric drone music. Come to Helicopter on June 5th for a chance to see: The rare Dodochord, a one-off expansive drone machine, making its final stand against the string forces of the magnetic Zither and a stripped Piano Harp. Scattered percussion, feedback and shifting resonance fields add to the mix and help to bring the space alive. We look forward to having you join us!

Adam is a composer and sound artist, currently living in the Netherlands. Current pursuits lie in an DIY approach to signal/noise-making; bringing a pointedly (in)sensitive ‘touch’ back into live electronic music via an eclectic supercollision of found objects, field recordings and unorthodox forays into electromagnetism.

Rob follows a winding path of musical investigations, tripping up on primal sonic systems, reducing and twisting them to suit the goal. From location based DIY improv to bare soled pseudo pop, the results hover jaggedly between accident and purpose.

Dirar Kalash is a musician from Palestine whose work spans a wide range of musical and sonic practices within a variety of compositional and improvisational contexts. His approach to music and life are highly political and challenge dichotomies, hierarchies, and binary logics of new/old and west/east as tools of cultural imperialism and hegemony. Dirar recently released a tape on Albayan featuring no input mixer. Monday, he will play an improvisation on sax and electronics.
