Emily Stevenhagen
Emily Stevenhagen is a multi-disciplinary artist. Her work explores the subtleties of everyday intimacies in the connections we have with others, with our surrounding and with ourselves. Through various forms of expression, such as painting, performance, installation, writing and video, her work examines what role a depiction can have in our reimagining and reevaluation of memory and the past. Her work plays with the boundaries of the uncanny, using abstract blurred depictions to reflect inner emotions back onto an audience. Through this, her painterly studies are an expression of an atmosphere and a subjective mood, separate from time, merging past, present and future.
Emily studied her BA in Fine Arts at The University of Oxford, and her MA in Artistic Research at the KABK in The Hague. Emily has exhibited works in the UK and the Netherlands. She is cofounder of ‘Bad Penny Publications’ together with Noor Remmen (a zine publishing platform working with artists and the public through experimental writing workshops). She is also cofounder of the initiative ‘WaitingSnake Studios’ (a curator duo that leads the exhibitions ‘Artists work in Horeca’ at various cultural venues in The Hague).
